Methodist Physician Alliance (MPA) is requiring all physicians who have opted-into a Medicare Advantage (MA) plan(s) C and D to be informed that they must receive annual Fraud Waste and Abuse (FWA) training in order for all parties to be fully compliant with The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has mandated this requirement for fraud, waste, and abuse training.  This training must be completed by December 31, 2012 and annually thereafter. Participation in this training is mandatory for providers and their employees who provide services reimbursable under a Medicare Advantage C and D plans.

To access the FWA training developed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), select the following link:

The training should take less than 30 minutes and is available free of charge.

Methodist Physician Alliance will accept any of the following in lieu of this FWA course:

  • Completion of a FWA training course offered by any other Medicare Advantage Plan Sponsor with whom you are contracted.
  • Completion of a FWA training course offered by a hospital where you have admitting privileges.
  • Completion of a FWA training course developed in-house or by a third party as long as it meets CMS training requirements.

Retain the attestation with your physician agreement with MPA.  It may be requested by Methodist Physician Alliance or CMS at any time. In addition, and in compliance with CMS regulations, the practice or entity is required to maintain training logs including: who completed the training, the date the training was completed, and material distributed at the training. CMS requires that these records be retained for a period of 10 years. In addition, these training records must be available to CMS and/or Medicare Advantage Plan Sponsors upon request to substantiate the statements made in attestations.
